How can I filter/group/order by related fields in the API DOCS UI?

Every way I've tried to notate a related field in those params gives me an error like "Invalid or unparsable field in filter request." I can't imagine this system is designed to prohibit filtering, grouping or ordering by related fields, so what am I doing wrong?

I know the relationship works because it's all good with just the table_name and related parameters, or if I filter, group or order by any of the table_name fields.
